YOUR FUTURE Students first read a Calvin and Hobbes comic where Calvin is daydreaming about the future. He imagines robots preparing him for school, his father flying to the moon to attend a business meeting, but he still finds himself with the same problem: being late for school. He mother asks him "Why can't you just stay in the present?" - We talk about what it means to be PRESENT in class; and how focusing too much on the past or daydreaming too much about the future can lead to not being able to focus. - But we also talk about the importance of daydreaming when and if it takes place in an appropriate setting. Daydreaming about the future is important because it can give the student incentive in school. The second a student doesn't understand WHY they are taking a class or are in school is the second they start not doing well. ASSIGNMENT: Due Dec. 20th - Students are given a choice of making a 12 page comic or a 20 frame animation depicting their futures or a future. To further prompt inspiration, follow up questions are asked. - What house do you live in in the future? - What is your job? - What do you do for fun? Students are graded upon: - effort - fulfilling the project (actually 12 pages or 20 frames) Continued effort in class and a finished assignment can assure a student a B. Continued effort does not mean having to be spoken to continuously to keep socializing to a minimum. Effort in art is VISUAL and obvious. BONUS DRAWING SKILLS THAT WILL EFFECT YOUR GRADE- Showcasing applied knowledge of perspective drawing/attention to environments and/or background. Showcasing CONSISTENT PROPORTIONS in order to make an animation believable. MONDAY 6th grade- warm up of 5 figure drawings. Stress the significance of graduating from Stick figures.
